How do you make the best of a bad economy? Join us on the USD campus for a Saturday morning of insight and camraderie with your fellow information professionals. Our featured speaker, economics professor Alan Gin, will start the morning with his perspective on how the economy failed and what we can expect financially in the future, both nationally and locally. Prof. Gin is best known for developing and publishing the University of San Diego’s Index of Leading Economic Indicators for San Diego County, a monthly report on the outlook for the local economy. His insights on the local economy have made him a popular source for interviews, and he has given nearly 1,000 interviews to local and national media sources.
We’ll move on to a panel discussion of budget cuts in the library world and how librarians at various institutions, both legal, business and academic, are coping. We’ll also discuss how to chase your (alternative) dream job and creative ways to use your skills in librarianship in the business world. We’ll close by discussing how to give back to yourself and your community by volunteering. Volunteering is not only a way to help others, it is a way to enhance your own job skills. SLA and SANDALL members will discuss volunteer work they have done in the library community and the many opportunities still out there.
Breakfast and lunch included.
